Self Storage Insurance

Self storage insurance provide protection for your household or commercial items in the event of of theft or damage to your space.  Insurance is economical and is a safe & secure option when storing items that you want to protect.

Many people assume that the location that you choose automatically provides self storage insurance that covers your items in case of an emergency.  If they do then it is usually already built into your rate.  Actual, few providers provide storage insurance unless you are willing to pay the extra costs.   Usually rental rates are only for the space itself.  Some locations provide basic insurance coverage that may include fire protection but not necessarily weather or theft.

Your first avenue should be to contact your home owners insurance provider to see if your posession will be covered by your existing homeowners insurance policy.  It could be that you would be fully covered for goods that are stored away from the household.  Also, they might offer an extended self storage insurance rider that you could purchase that a reduced rate as this could be cheaper than taking out a separate insurance policy.  If you provide your own insurance coverage, be aware that the provider may required proof of coverage.  An important point to remember is that your insurance coverage may change in the event that you add or remove contents from your space.  Check with your insurance carrier for a list of guidelines before you lease.

Some facilities will not required that you have self storagee insurance coverage to be able to rent .  Do not be lulled into a false sense of security just because you feel that the premise implements good security measures.  Its always a good idea to protect yourself and your items in as many way as possible.  Your provider will do everything they can to avoid theft but they can do little when there is damage or accidents causes by fires, explosions, malicious acts, floods, storms, tornados, hurricanes, earthquakes and any other natural diasters.
